The Assembly passed the Deficit Reduction Plan Wednesday morning after an all night session. We are still in the process of reviewing the legislation, which is expected to be voted on by the Senate today and signed by the Governor. Important to transit is the inclusion of a $120 million sweep from downstate STOA and a 3.36% across the board cut to operating for all systems. The Legislature opted not to include a $5 million sweep of the non-MTA capital account as proposed earlier. Below, please find a chart detailing the cuts to operating.
In addition to the Deficit Reduction Plan, the public authorities reform legislation passed by the Assembly earlier this month is on the agenda for consideration by the Senate. Public Transit is an easy way to make your daily routine more green. But how can public transit providers make transportation itself more green? Click Here to read more.
Switching to public transit can reduce your daily carbon emissions by 20 pounds; that’s more than 4,800 pounds a year!
That's more than all of these combined:
| Public funding for transit impacts New York’s economy—for every dollar in operating aid, 3.2 is returned to the economy; for every dollar in capital aid, 3.0 is returned. |
