NYSDOT seeks input from NYPTA members on SAFETEA-LU Reauthorization (4/14/08) Print E-mail
As you are aware, the Federal surface transportation authorizing legislation, known as SAFETEA-LU, expires on September 30, 2009. While that may seem far in the future, transportation agencies and advocacy groups across the country are already gearing up for what promises to be a critical policy debate on constructing, reconstructing and financing America's surface transportation infrastructure. Here in New York State, much is at stake because our long-term transportation investment plans are predicated upon the Federal government playing a major funding role. NYPTA has engaged in preliminary discussions with both the Governor's office and NYSDOT regarding reauthorization, and we have signaled our willingness to work closely with the State to secure legislation that benefits New York. To that end, we are asking you to review and respond to NYSDOT's initial request for information on legislative proposals (see links below) that can be incorporated into the new Federal authorizing legislation. This effort is being spearheaded by Ron Epstein who may be contacted at 518-457-8362 and This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Response is requested on or before April 20, 2008.
